Seachem Matrix 500ml

Seachem Matrix 500ml is a highly porous biological filter media designed to provide exceptionally efficient aquarium biofiltration for removing toxic nitrogenous waste. It consists of completely inert, stone-like inorganic solids measuring approximately 10 mm in diameter. Instead of relying only on external surface area like traditional plastic media, Matrix contains an extensive network of internal and external macropores. A single liter of Matrix provides over 700 m² of surface area, which is biologically equivalent to 170 liters of plastic bio-balls.

• Simultaneous Waste Removal: The unique macropore sizing perfectly hosts both aerobic nitrifying bacteria (on the outer surface) and anaerobic denitrifying bacteria (deep within the pores). This allows the media to remove ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate simultaneously in the exact same filter. 
• Permanent Investment: The material is completely inert and will not break down or disintegrate over time. It never needs to be replaced. 
• Low Maintenance: Because the vast majority of beneficial bacteria colonize the deep internal pores, you can safely rinse the media with tank water during routine maintenance without crashing your biological filter. 
• Water Parameters: It does not alter water pH or hardness, making it fully compatible with both freshwater and marine aquariums.
